General Assembly wishes to appoint a United Reformed Church minister to serve as Eastern Synod
Moderator from July 2021 or shortly after.
The Eastern Synod is seeking a person of deep spirituality with the energy and enthusiasm to inspire others
and the ability to demonstrate:
- a commitment to providing effective pastoral support to ministers and congregations
- a desire to develop a clear vision for the Synod
- a commitment to building relationships ecumenically
- initiative and an ability to manage change
- a style of leadership that is empathetic, consultative, collaborative and inclusive
- good spoken and written communication skills.

This role has been modified since last advertised to reflect more clearly the needs of
the Church. Helping lead strategic change for the United Reformed Church

Full time: Salary £64,994; Plan for Partnership for Ministers of Word and Sacraments and CRCWs
Do you have the organisational skills and experience to lead our Discipleship team as we seek
to serve the rapidly changing needs of local churches and Synods in the 21st Century?
As the Deputy General Secretary (Discipleship) you will lead this key department, managing and working with the
teams which play a vital role in our Children’s and Youth Work, Church Related Community Work, Education and
Learning, Ministries and Safeguarding. You will enable the development of the department as it seeks to resource
the wider church, serving local churches and Synods as they grow disciples.
As a member of the General Secretariat you will also share in the exercise of theologically-informed Christian
leadership of the United Reformed Church ensuring the resources of the Church serve the needs of local
worshipping and witnessing communities.
You will have a good understanding of discipleship and its development, knowledge of the complex nature of the
URC and an ability to ensure that vision becomes reality through effective policy making and governance. You
will be a leader, and a proven people manager with the skills and confidence to manage a range of complex people
and organisational situations.
